I don't know if anyone has heard of artfire.com but it is like etsy. There are two different memberships one is free and one is like 20 bucks a month I think. I decided to try the free one first to see if I liked it before I started to pay. I had problems right from the start! I had trouble uploading pictures, listing items, typing things, viewing things.... etc. All kinds of weird things were happening to where I could not even use it. I thought well forget it. Then I went back a few days later and it worked a little better and I got an email they were having problems with the site but I still didn't like it. Also there is another site called uhmmm I think it is called shophandmade.com I am not sure if it is my computer or me but I had trouble with that site too! I didn't join I just was trying to read more about how it works and decide but I think something is wrong with that site too! I couldn't click on certain things to read more and see more of how it works. Anyone reading this let me know if you tried these sites to see how they worked. They are: shophandmade.com and artfire.com
I do consider myself to be an artist and read on....
I am new to this site. I do have a shop at www.jewelrybyandrea.etsy.com Please visit me there to see and know more about my jewelry making. I have a jewelry page on myspace and another page on myspace of just me.
I have been making jewelry and selling it for over 16 or 17 years. I have used every type of material when it comes to jewelry making and I never stick to one style. Every piece is very different. I just love subcomplimentary colors schemes and earthy tones I think I sometimes gravitate more to and I don't know why. Other times I try to force myself to make purple, pink, bright blue, and yelow more fun cheerful colors that I don't normally make on a regular basis. Like I said I gravitate more to the earthy or dark stones like brown, orange, or peachy, green, grays, black etc.
I love agates, jaspers, turquoise, hematite, silver, pearls, cab stones all shapes and sizes... these may often change! I love silver chains and experimenting with them as well as experimenting with wire wrapping although I am not that good at it. The wire does not seem to cooperate with me most of the time. I am crazy about pendants, I make some of my own pendant settings and mountings and buy some. I like to make alot of layered pieces that go together and pieces that can be mixed and matched sometimes.
I get my inspiration from everything people, places, things, music, nature etc... I always coming up with new designs and materials to use and incorporate into a piece.
I am completely self taught and enjoy learning and growing at my own pace in my own way. I do consider myself to be an artist. Although I know and I am sure I have a lot to learn and maybe a way to go. Everyone's definition of an artist is different. I consider it to be a natural skill and or ability that you are great at and passionate about and you enjoy it more than anything. Also I love creative artists that do abstract paintings, pottery, crochet, knitting and hand made knit clothing. So if you do any of that send it my way!!
